You probably have already noticed that my editorial content is once again appearing at Yahoo! Fantasy Sports. I want to assure you that it doesn’t mean that busersports.com is going anywhere, but you will see some changes as to what the main site offers to visitors, and hopefully those changes will be put into effect in the very near future. In the meantime, please head over to the forums with any help with rosters, transactions, or for just some banter on any number of topics – I’m happy to report that things are pretty active there, so whatever you post will get a number of eyes on it in pretty short order. Thanks to everyone that has helped make busersports.com what it is today, and please stay tuned for the next stages of our development.
Oh yeah, and don’t forget to check out my stuff over at Yahoo!. I’ll be posting a Weekly Dashboard on Sundays, the NBA Skinny on Mondays, and then Roto Arcade posts three or four days per week, with some being open-ended pieces and others being a straight breakdown of the night’s game action.

Changes? you mean changes like not posting any content for 4 days at the beginning of the season (the time when people need the most help and advice) when you’re trying to run the premiere fantasy hoops site on the web. You mean those kinda changes?
I haven’t seen bubkiss on yahoo that would qualify as expert analysis. Most of the stuff on there is really, really, really dumbed down i.e. Forwards are good for rebounds, Guards are good for assists.
I mean seriously, I just looked and you don’t even have anything posted on there for October 30th or 31st. Or October 28th for that matter. I’m in a $1,000 buyin league and I don’t take 3 days off like that. You get paid to do this and you’re taking 3-4 days off at the beginning of the season? Thats lame man, especially since you didn’t even post this changes post until 4 days after the fact to let us know your content is now going to be appearing on yahoo.
Its all good though, I’m a fantasy hoops beast I’d probably be better off just going with my own opinions and not listening to anything else.
In summary, Epic Fail for a fantasy Hoops website not to publish anything for 4 days at the beginning of the season. Way 2 go Matt!
first off, i will say that this post should have come days ago, but instead i was assuming i would just be linking to all my stuff as it was posted and this announcement would not be necessary – that was a bad idea and for that you have my apologies
in my own defense, you can contact me personally in any number of ways if you have questions, via this website or via yahoo, so my not posting on any particular day doesn’t affect my ability to give help and advice to those who seek it
and my content would be no different if it were here or on yahoo, so i’m not sure how the quality of information has suddenly suffered. but i’ll give you that most things in life are subjective. good luck this season
wow calm down, for the most part you aren’t going to be doing a whole lot to your roster in the first few days of fantasy anyway (unless you change your views on players based on an extremely small sample size).
Most adjustments should come in the beginning of the season. I dropped Barbosa, Anthony Randolph, and Ronnie Brewer. I picked up Jennings and Evans and traded for Marc Gasol and Kaman.
thanks for the heads up matt. some of us have been missing your stuff sans the malice. (although i have noticed it on yahoo[exclamation point] the problem is that so did the rest of my league. . . it’s still good, just doesn’t really give a guy much of an edge if all his competitors are reading it too.)
i should say, however, that the forums have provided a great source for that edge.
and also, thundercat’s a choad.
Agree and agree, though Choad is being nice.
thanks, but i’m going to go ahead and ask you to refrain from name-calling
sorry. won’t happen again.
It’s spelled “chode”
either is acceptable actually
matt buser. you are tit. thanks for the long awaited update. my draft turned out amazingly based on ur strategies for punting specific cats. i had 2nd pick and ended up with bron bron (that helps) and snagged nash and kidd at the rd 2-3 turn. ray allen in 4 and pretty much all bigs after that. screw ft%.
i have one pressing question to go along with this nonsensical banter. i took delonte with my last pick, but then dropped him for frye. my question: would it make sense to drop mcdeyess (im aware you love him) for delonte (that whack job)? im worried about league suspensions, continued irrational behavior, etc. he would be the last player on my bench in a 12-team league with 6 bench spots. my backup pg play is sketchy. behind nash/kidd i only have jonny flynn and j.terry (not exactly assist machines).
i dont think his immediate availability is very much at risk, so that’s not a bad add/drop
I’m one of those who’s big on Dyess this year as well – but he needs some more time to settle in. I’ve gone from sitting him on my bench to dropping him as well. But I do have him on my watch list, and I still believe he’ll be worth a pickup later in the year.
But the move makes sense to me.
A wise person once said “With great power comes responsibility”
Matt you were so good in the past that expectations have risen…

Bet you didn’t know I was a comic book geek as well, huh?
do you ever sleep?
Only on Thurdays.
And special occasions.
Usually spend my time walking around looking like this
(Man, I love that smiley!)
Could Caron Butler not get a assist this season? Killin’ me already.
Looking for a quick opinion. In a 9-cat league where I am punting FT% and 3′s. Who do you like better for guards out of the following: A.I., Andre Miller, Duhon. Choose 2 of 3. Redick, Lawson, CDR…
Thanks!
Meant… Redick, Lawson, CDR, also available on wire.
I hope you picked up Andre Miller. A.I. will be the best option if he gets traded to or picked up by New York. Lawson and CDR over Redick.
Yeah, I actually drafted Miller… just not crazy about the choice and looking for something better.
hi buser,
so someone dropped k martin in my league. h2h 8 team,11 cats (ftm, orebs,to)
i am picking him up bc to me its worth the wait cause he single handedly wins ftm cat. i dont know who to drop…help!!!
Aaron Brooks(Hou – PG)
Jason Richardson(Pho – SG,SF)
Gilbert Arenas(Was – PG)
Caron Butler(Was – SG,SF)
Chris Bosh(Tor – PF,C)
Channing Frye(Pho – PF,C)
Spencer Hawes(Sac – PF,C)
Dwight Howard(Orl – C)
Andris Biedrins(GS – C)
Russell Westbrook(OKC – PG)
Rajon Rondo(Bos – PG)
Brook Lopez(NJ – PF,C)
Danilo Gallinari(NY – SF)
Mo Williams(Cle – PG)
Manu Ginobili(SA – SG)
thanks!
like i know hawes will step up in his absence but hes struggled out of the gate
i couldnt imagine you winning assists very often. could punt assists and drop brooks. which in turn would strengthen threes, ftm, and points. if your team is actually fairly competitive in assists then drop gallinari since he only shoots three’s and kmart will come back and do that for you anyways.
Drop Brooks? Listen to this guy if you want to lose.
You have Rondo, Westbrook, Brooks, and Arenas and this guy thinks you won’t be winning assists very often… You have the 4rd, 5th, and 6th best assist guys in the entire league. Only CP3, Deron, and Nash are better in assists, and two of them do not rack up steals like the way Rondo and Westbrook do.
If you’re going to drop anyone, drop Spencer Hawes.
umm def don’t drop brooks. i don’t think it’s worth it to add kevin martin since he’ll be out 8+ weeks and who knows how rusty he’ll be when he gets back.
drop biedrins, hawes, or manu..
in an 8-team league, hawes is likely expendable, but there are probably a whole bunch of solid options on the wire as we speak yes?
and feel free to take these kinds of questions to the forum next time
Buser,
When do the “Rest-of-Season Rankings” make their 2009-2010 debut? I love those things; very handy in analyzing potential trades, upgrades, pickups, and drops.
Look forward to seeing them soon, I hope.
Thanks.
yeah i will break those out at some point in the not-too-distant future
where are all the russell westbrook haters now? it was me against the world last year defending him. now i guess the rest of you realize what a stud he is.. and yes, he is way better than derrick rose.
no one better say “oh i always liked him..” because no one took my side. just simply admit, “you were right ashley, this guy is the real deal.”
i’d love for you to point out where everyone in the world said this guy wasn’t “the real deal”. i’m pretty sure much of the conversation here centered around his problem cats, FG% and TO. the FG% has been great so far, but 5.2 turnovers isn’t helping anyone, the reason for the average-ish 9-cat ranking thus far (92)
Oh, I always liked him…
Matt, hush. I was literally the only person on here saying Westbrook would be better than Rose. Everyone acted like he’d be a career 40% shooter and that he was playing at his ceiling. You can find the comments. When I said Westbrook was one of my keepers there were numerous people who said “Westbrook?? Why would you keep him??”
So anyways, hopefully the rest of you are finally seeing the light. As for turnovers, who cares. I’d rather him play aggressive and make turnovers than be some timid PG.
If he develops a 3pt shot he’ll be a top 5 PG.
searching the comment archives would be quite a chore, that’s for sure. i forget, who were the players you kept him over that might have raised an eyebrow or two from the gallery?
6 games into the season westbrook IS still a career 40% shooter.
i do think his fg% is likely to improve this year, but he will still, in my estimation, have a negative impact on fg% by year’s end, though not as much as last year.
a bit early to be cashing in.
lou williams is shooting 47% right now…
b_rad82
All I said was that he could easily get up to 45% this season. I stated how guys like Rondo & Parker had horrible FG% their rookie years and now they’re 50% shooters. Everyone though it was completely unreal to expect Westbrook to shoot 45%.
If you know anything about Westbrook, you know he attacks the basket. Most of his shots came inside the lane and he made less than 43% of those shots. It’s SO obvious that as Westbrook gets bigger and stronger he’ll become a better finisher at the rim. But apparently no one could comprehend that.
If the majority of Westbrooks shots were 20 ft jumpers.. Then yeah, I’d be concerned about his FG%.
@Buser
No clue. The only other halfway decent players on my roster were Chalmers, Rasheed, Andersen, and Battier.
So I don’t think it was that. I think it was just that people had a problem with the general idea of Westbrook as a keeper. No one saw him as a top 50 player anytime soon.
the top 50 assertion seems far-fetched considering the consensus keeper rankings have westbrook at 32. there may have been some (perhaps vocal) westbrook haters, but don’t lump us all in there.
hi everyone,
my friend offered me a trade: He’s offering odom, gasol, and calderon for t. murphy, billups, and marion. What would you do??
Thanks, but no thanks.
Murphy, Billups, Marion >> Gasol, Calderon, Odom
Your friend is trying to sell high on Odom. Gasol will not have the same numbers as last year if Bynum continues to go on his rampage. Calderon is not looking good this year at all; perhaps he’s a good buy low candidate.
Troy Murphy is easily the 2nd best player on his team by far. He will produce big numbers. Billups is a top 20 player who consistently gets FT%, 3s, assists, steals, and some points. Marion has been a disappointment so far, but he’ll be worth much more than Odom in a week or two.
gasol>murph
odom
calderon
don’t do it as it stands. you could maybe see about someone other than odom, who’s value really is tied to the health of gasol/bynum
and feel free to take this type of question to the forums next time

Ashley, you seem to know your stuff so can you please tell me why you have such high regards for Westbrook as a keeper? All I see is another pretty good pro player whose game does not translate too well for fantasy. I’d keep any of the other players listed over him.
mookieblaylock says:

In each fantasy b-ball league for every 1st place team, there has to be a 12th place team. I guess this helps explain the absurdly high rankings of Howard, Rose, Melo, Gay, and now Westbrook.
How on earth is Westbrook a near top 30 keeper? FG% and TO count and Westbrook simply is not good enough in the other stats to make up for these deficiencies. He wouldn’t even be in my top 60.
mookieblaylock says:

I guess it all comes down to your keeper league rules and what you expect out of your keeper players. If you want to keep holding onto a guy year after year with the hopes that he will someday be great, then maybe Westbrook is your guy. I’m more concerned about winning now.
Chriskim4 says:

Westbrook has to accept the fact that he can’t shoot worth crap and start driving in for layups like Andre Miller and Rajon Rondo. Otherwise, we’re looking at some horrible FG%.
I think he’s going to average identical numbers to Steve Francis.
mookieblaylock says:

Ashley, you make some good arguments for Westbrook but I think you’re wrong in some of your assumptions. He’s a promising player that could be good (possibly great) but unfortunately that does not always translate for fantasy purposes.
Westbrook is a combo guard that has been forced into playing the PG position. He’s not a true PG, so the ast will never be that great. If I’m wrong and he bumps the ast to 8+ a game, then the TO’s will definitely stay the same. On the other hand, let’s say Westbrook decides to score more and pass a little less. His 3pts made could go up to 1 but that would mean he’s taking more 3’s and he is clearly not a good outside shooter. How is this going to improve his FG%?
you have completely too much free time
You don’t even know me… I do not have completely too much free time, ass. I’ve hardly had any free time this semester, but I’m trying to stay involved with Buser’s site. But if this site has been taken over by all the morons who comment on the Yahoo! fantasy articles since I’ve been gone, then I’ll stay away. I copied & pasted ONE thread regarding Westbrook.
Westbrook’s 9 cat Yahoo ranks so far: #91 per game average and #101 season total and this is with him shooting .488! He led the league in TO last year and is on pace to do so again this year. Maybe the FG% goes down along with the TO to balance things out but I still do not see a top 30 or even top 50 player. We’re talking fantasy value here and not Westbrook’s real life value to the Thunder. Am I missing something here? How is anything that I said wrong so far (except for the high FG%, which will most likely come down somewhat)? Westbrook’s overall value is closer to 100 than 30. Sorry but the #’s don’t lie.
By the way, I was also way down on Rose and said that he would be drafted way too high relative to his actual fantasy value. In all fairness, I will also admit my bad call on Brandon Rush who is looking to be an early season bust.
Except the rankings do lie. So I guess you’d rather have Chuck Hayes, Varejao, Dampier, Outlaw, or Reddick??
Westbrook’s one flaw is TO and he can easily take it down to 3/gm. He’s still inexperienced at PG, but his raw talent/athleticism is crazy. If you don’t include TO’s he’s the #23 overall player.
So I think the majority of people would say Westbrook’s value is closer to 30 than 100. 100 is a marginal fantasy player. Westbrook is definitely an above average player, still on the rise.
RUS-SELL….RUS-SELL…RUS-SELL (the crowd chants as he puts up his 1-11 clunker).
With all due respect, I think you’re a little too enamored with him. I really don’t think he’s as good as you claim he is, at least not yet.
First of all, he’s not the #23 overall player without TOs, he’s the #74 overall player without TOs according to Basketball Monster, and with TOs he’s ranked #153 (I believe the discrepancy between BM and Yahoo rankings is because BM accounts for FGA and FTA, not just %s, i.e. the impact that player has on that category, which is invaluable information really).
Second of all, TOs aren’t his only flaw (though they are a big one). His FG% has been devastating so far and I see no reason to think he’ll suddenly improve drastically this year.
Third of all, he won’t get more than 15-16 points a game this year with Durant and Green taking most of the shots. He might average 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal, but he doesn’t do much else really. He’s 5-16 on threes so far, shooting 41% and 76%, and gets a ghastly 4.3 TOs a game. He’s almost hurting your team as much as he’s helping.
I certainly believe he’ll develop into a better player down the road, but I wouldn’t expect much this year. The best thing going for him right now is that he’ll get 35+ minutes every game, but apart from that, I probably would be happier with a Lou Williams or Jameer Nelson on my team right now, possibly even Jennings and Evans.
As for Rose, I’d probably take him over Westbrook too, Westbrook gets slightly more assists and boards, but Rose doesn’t kill your FG% and TOs.
Of course Westbrook’s has more value in a keeper league, just don’t expect him to approach anywhere near top 30 value this year. I’ve got him in my keeper league also, and I’ve been flooded with offers for him so I think he still has a ton of trade value, I’d look to move him like I am before his value gets any worse, but I know you’re gonna go down with the ship anyway, so good luck.
delonte west experiment is over. some knucklehead dropped morrow right before s-jax’ warm comments about nellie.
wondering how u feel about tayshaun prince. i got him super late thinking hed be a solid glue guy, but his back issues sketch me out. would you consider him worth dropping to open up a flex spot (h2h league with 5 max pickups)? waiver options are brad miller, dalembert, injured tyrus thomas, a.parker, and matt barnes
well there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be what you expected when he’s healthy. that said, i’m a huge fan of single-spot turnover in h2h, where you maximize the schedule and matchups – it makes so much more sense than just carrying a fringe option
ummm…long time reader/first time comment. so iverson basically stole 5 million from Memphis just off his name alone. wow. what else. yes Ashley, YOU WERE RIGHT. u said westbrook would have a better season than rose all summer and after EIGHT whole games, you were right. lol…kinda early to be cashing in like buser said. Dampier had 20 rebounds tonight. J.R. Smith said he wants to be known as “Earl Smith the third” from now on. ok thats my fake buser update since buser went back for that yahoo money. lol.
hey man, i’m still here
check out those forums sometime
Buser, you were the one who convinced me to not reach for Ariza with your rankings. I’m still mad at you.
how high of a reach are we talking? i wasn’t exactly down on him entering the season
At #70 and #71. I went with Ant-Rand and Jason Terry. Terry’s numbers are down because of Marion and Randolph has just been a huge disappointment. I’m doing alright though, because I have Brandon Jennings!
Buser!
I need help. Augustin is frustrating me. Do I hold him? I have the chance to pick up Jason Williams. h2h custom league, with crazy stats fgm, fg%, 3pm, 3p%, ftm, ft%, plus the usual cats. I punted blocks too. I usually like to hold one to guys like him in case they flourish later in the season–does he have a chance? Thanks a bunch.
he has a chance, but that chance involves a felton injury or trade. it’s pretty safe to look elsewhere, particularly with sjax now on board
Chris Paul must be worth 10x as much in that kind of a league. Same with Steve Nash.
Yeah it’s a cool league, and pretty deep with 14 teams. And I got 1st pick and took CP, so that was nice. Decided to play the percentages so I punted blocks and went with Murphy, Frye, and Miller for big guys. I’m tied for 1st so my strategy has worked so far, even with the injuries to Murphy and CP.
Buser, I traded Tyreke Evans for Greg Oden. My team’s biggest disappointments have been Ant-Rand and Al Jefferson, so my blocks have taken a huge hit from what I was expecting. Do you think it was a good trade for me?
Current team in a 10-team H2H league with no playoffs:
Guards: Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Brandon Jennings, Jason Kidd, Gilbert Arenas, Stephen Curry, Jason Terry, Rudy Fernandez
Forwards: Anthony Randolph, Andrei Kirilenko, Ben Wallace
Centers: Al Jefferson, Greg Oden
Every year, I always try to build around forwards and centers who get me a lot of blocks, steals, and decent percentages.
hey man, feel free to take this kind of stuff to the forums
