I’ve got something of a catch-all post on Roto Arcade in advance of opening night, highlighting a number of status updates and discussing a few position battles.

It’s a good night to be a Chris Kaman owner.

I promise I won’t brag too much this season, but the Raps beating the Cavs tonight by 10 on opening night is too good to be true (biggest lead was 21). Bargnani was as good as I’ve seen him, 28-5-1-1-1-2, and Bosh was huge, 21-16-2! Throw in Calderon’s 11 assists, and Hedo, DD, Marco, and Jack chipping in another 30 points and I’m officially impressed. Not only that, but they’re stressing defense and rebounding this year more than ever and held Cleveland to just 35% shooting! Move ‘em up the power ranking!

Cap – overall, how did Calderon look? Obviously the 5 pts on only 6 shots and 2 missed FT was not good but the assists and minutes are encouraging. I used my 2nd round pick on him over Brook Lopez (who almost slid to me in the 3rd – damn!), so I’m really depending on him this year.

He looked fine. Turok did bring the ball up a few times, but most of the plays ran through Calderon. He could be less of an option to score than I thought, but his assists should be right near the top of the league, so he’s still a valuable PG to own. Lopez on the other hand looks like a first round stud so we all might have missed out on him a bit earlier.

i’ve been watching the cavs play…and other than Lebron, they just all seem lost. I dont understand how Mo Williams even made the allstar team last year, he’s been struggling immensely. Rondo is a good defender, but to get held down by Calderon too, who really isn’t known for his on-ball defense.

Then their bigs…other than lebron, no one can really play the 4, but you want lebron at the 3, so thus you’re left with Varejao playing out of position and unable to deal with the quickness and athleticness of other 4s in the league. The Cavs are in the trouble this year, bringing in Shaq didn’t help them. If anything, they’re much better off having Z playing the 5, as it stretches the floor. With Shaq you just clog up the middle, making it so that opposing perimeter defenders dont have to double down and risk leaving open looks for Williams and Parker.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the Cavs, they’re still learning a new playbook and adjusting to new players, but I’m sure they’re still destined for 50+ wins. The good thing I can say about their roster is that they have options. Last night they went small for a big portion of the game and it worked wonders until the Raps adjusted. They also played Shaq and Z together at one at point which gave them a whole new look. Once Z and Gibson get going, they’ll be fine.

I have been saying that to my friends all year. No one took that serious. Shaq is just going to clog the lane so Lebron will not be able to drive with ease. Big Z gave them a C who can shoot outside and a good mid range. They do look lost.
