Operation Shutdown (?)

It happens every year. At least a few teams have their playoff situations pretty much locked up or are so far out of contention that cutting back certain players’ minutes (or benching them all together) in the final stretch of the regular season starts to make sense – whether to get rested and healthy for the playoffs or to ensure that minor injuries aren’t aggravated and suddenly become long-term concerns. Paul Pierce was a good example of the former last season – check out the numbers:

Nov-Feb: 57 G, 38 min, 20.3 pts, 1.7 3pt, 5.4 reb, 4.7 ast, 3.1 to, 1.4 stl, 0.4 blk
March: 16 G, 33 min, 19.1 pts, 1.6 3pt, 5 reb, 4.4 ast, 2 to, 1.1 stl, 0.6 blk
April: 7 G, 27 min, 15.3 pts, 2.7 3pt, 3 reb, 3.1 ast, 2.1 to, 1 stl, 0.3 blk

Obviously the spike in threes helped his cause (he made 50 percent of his attempts in April), but most of the numbers fantasy owners came to count on over the course of the season took substantial enough of a hit to matter, thanks to fewer minutes played. So who is at risk this season? Let’s take a look at things on a team-by-team basis.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

LeBron James1. Cleveland Cavaliers (current record 44-11)
The Cavs are locked in a tight race with the Celtics for home court advantage throughout the playoffs, so they’ll keep the foot on the throttle for as long as they need to. You may remember that LeBron James was actually sitting out chucks of blowouts early in the season, the main reason that his minutes are currently at a career-low of just over 37 per game. Zydrunas Ilgauskas is one player they may want to monitor, but he sat out almost all of January with an ankle injury and his minutes (~27) are as low as they’ve been since the 2001-02 season.

2. Boston Celtics (46-12)
Paul Pierce and Ray Allen got the treatment last season as Boston was comfortably ahead of Detroit for best record in the conference. Even if Kevin Garnett hadn’t dealt with an abdominal injury during the second half, he would have been in the same situation. The race is much closer this season, and you have to imagine that the Celtics would prefer to once again have home court throughout, so it makes the team a bit less likely to rest their major players significantly. Cleveland isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, so I’m not in sell mode here.

3. Orlando Magic (41-15)
The Magic are the only other team in the East with a shot at the top seed and the race was much different at the beginning of February, during which the Magic have gone 6-5. They are already all but guaranteed at least the No.3 seed in the East, but they certainly aren’t going to give up on aiming higher and they’ll want Rafer Alston fully acclimated come playoff time. If they do fall out of contention for that top spot towards the end, however, you may see the major players get a bit of down time in April.

4. Atlanta Hawks (32-24)
5. Miami Heat (30-26)
While nothing is guaranteed, the Hawks and Heat seem like they’ve got a pretty good shot at staying just above the fray and in the mix for the four/five seeds. What makes them more likely to keep their starters going into the final days is that battle for the fourth seed and home court in the first round. Joe Johnson and Dwyane Wade are shouldering heavy loads in terms of playing time for their respective teams, but neither is playing an unusual amount relative to their careers and both have been healthy all season.

6. Philadelphia 76ers (27-28)
7. Detroit Pistons (27-28)
8. Milwaukee Bucks (28-31)
9. Chicago Bulls (26-31)
10. New Jersey Nets (25-32)
Chris Duhon11. New York Knicks (24-32)
Just 3.5 games separate this group of teams vying for the playoffs, so there is plenty of motivation for all of them to keep playing their best rotation as much as possible. Two individual players worth noting: Derrick Rose is currently 14th in the league in minutes but has also seen his per-game average drop each month; that trend may continue, even though he is the Bulls’ most dynamic player … Chris Duhon will probably need just two more games to set a career high for minutes played in a season (he’s 56 away); the trade for Larry Hughes will eventually allow Nate Robinson to spell him more often moving forward, something a gimpy Duhon (ankle) desperately needs.

12. Indiana Pacers (24-35)
13. Toronto Raptors (23-36)
14. Charlotte Bobcats (22-35)
The Pacers are without Danny Granger’s services for a bit longer, the Raptors continue to be a hot mess, and the Bobcats are still trying to figure things out as they go, so these three are likely to be on the outside looking in come playoff time. So what does it mean? Figure on Granger getting the kid-glove treatment if/when the season does officially end early for the Pacers (Mike Dunleavy is already done). The Raptors are going to do whatever they think will make Chris Bosh happy, but it may be a bit late for that. A pulled this or a tweaked that could mean time off for Bosh and/or Jose Calderon. Figure on the Bobcats just playing the season out, but with Gerald Wallace’s health closely monitored.

Caron Butler15. Washington Wizards (13-43)
Just when fantasy owners were starting to wonder about who might shut things down, Gilbert Arenas is back at practice for the Wizards. Arenas had this to say about a possible late-season active stint: “I don’t want to promise anything, I’m not even ready to think about that right now.” I’m not counting on anything, particularly given the team’s record. Caron Butler always seems to miss games at the end of the season, and there’s not much reason to think this year will be any different – he’s one player I’d absolutely be shopping while he’s healthy and productive. I’m less concerned about Antawn Jamison, who has proven himself to be a durable and prideful player. At some point, it does make sense for the Wizards to bench Mike James and give Javaris Crittenton extended run.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

1. Los Angeles Lakers (47-10)
The Lakers could be this year’s version of the last year’s Celtics. They are currently eight games ahead of second place San Antonio and don’t show any signs of losing steam. It makes sense that the Lakers would give their bench extended run down the stretch – with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom getting rest – if they were essentially playing for nothing over the final weeks. With that said, we’re still a ways away from that actually being a consideration.

2. San Antonio Spurs (38-17)
A number of factors to consider here. Gregg Popovich gave his “big three” a night off a few weeks back, so in general he’s not likely to be shy about it moving forward. Manu Ginobili is currently sidelined by the stress reaction in his right ankle and Tim Duncan will miss his second consecutive game tonight because of tendinitis in his right quad. Even if the top seed becomes officially out of reach at some point, only 3.5 games currently separate the Spurs and the fifth-place Blazers, so they have and will continue to have a lot to be playing for. Injuries aside, they are likely to play their star trio fairly consistently with an eye on one of the top seeds.

3. Denver Nuggets (37-20)
This team is going to keep the pedal to the metal. Nene Hilario was the one player who probably would have been discussed here, but he’s out for the next two weeks with a bone bruise in his right knee.

Yao Ming4. Houston Rockets (36-21)
The team is adjusting to a new starting point guard, the certainty of not having Tracy McGrady back this season, and are locked in the tight West race,  so they aren’t going to have the luxury of resting anyone – that includes Yao Ming, as long as he remains healthy.

5. Portland Trail Blazers (35-21)
6. New Orleans Hornets (33-22)
7. Utah Jazz (34-23)
8. Dallas Mavericks (33-23)
9. Phoenix Suns (32-24)
There are nine teams competing for the eight playoff seeds in the West, with just 4.5 games currently separating the No.3 Nuggets and No.9 Suns. There isn’t a lot to worry about with these five teams – barring an unforeseen collapse from just one of them, they will all be fighting tooth and nail to the end.

10. Golden State Warriors (20-37)
11. Minnesota Timberwolves (18-38)
12. Memphis Grizzlies (15-41)
Baron Davis13. Los Angeles Clippers (14-43)
14. Oklahoma City Thunder (13-44)
15. Sacramento Kings (12-46)
Thanks to this sorry group, the West currently boasts six of the seven worst records in the league. It’s anyone’s guess what the Warriors will do. It makes sense to see what the youngsters have to offer, but Don Nelson stopped making sense a while ago. You should at least assume Monta Ellis’ playing time will be sporadic, but that’s because of injury. The T-Wolves, Grizz, Thunder, and Kings will move forward with what they’ve got – their current rotations feature both their present and future, for the most part. What is worth noting is that Kevin Durant currently leads the league in minutes, while O.J. Mayo ranks 11th. The Clippers are an interesting case in that they feature a number of crusty and/or injury-prone vets (Baron Davis, Ricky Davis, Zach Randolph, Marcus Camby, and Chris Kaman) and have young players who can, at least in theory, step in and absorb most of their minutes (Mardy Collins, Mike Taylor, Steve Novak, and DeAndre Jordan). I’m not sure how it will play out, but I do know that I want no part of the Clippers’ vets moving forward.

i have caron and want to get a rebound push. you think dwight will sit too much in fantasy playoffs for me to target him?

  2. joey_nails says:

I have Biedrens, Rudy Gay and Kevin Martin…do you see any of these guys sitting? If so, Who should I be targeting this these guys?

  3. mbuser says:

good luck trying to play the nellie guessing game

  4. wkerridge says:

Once again, a great column. I was able to trade caron butler and chris duhon for kevin martin and TJ ford last week. Anyone think that was a good trade?

I hope it works out in the end and I think it will. Another reason why people should be shopping Butler (or Jamison) is the awful playoff schedule the Wizards have. Their playoff schedule is 4-3-2-2 (max is 5-5-4-2), only Houston plays fewer games from March 23rd on.

  5. csvernon says:

All right, looking for opinions on this trade I just made.

I gave up: Antawn Jamison, Russell Westbrook, Shawn Marion

I receive: Chris Paul, Marvin Williams

If this were the beginning of the season, I wouldn’t have made this trade, but Marion has disappointed and frustrated me all year, and I’m a bit concerned that Jamison won’t play so hard from here out, plus wkerridge right above me pointed out that the Wiz have an awful fantasy playoff schedule. I figure Paul will be chasing a real playoff spot till the end of the regular season, so no risk of “operation shutdown” there. Plus, our waiver wire seems unusually rich to me right now, with Greg Oden, Mike Miller, Wilson Chandler and Anthony Parker all available. I’m going to be scooping up one of those guys thanks to this deal.

Still interested to hear any opinions on this, as with a fresh trade there’s always the feeling that maybe I ripped myself off (I offered it, after all).

    • hyde says:

Jaimason has been really sloppy lately turning the ball over

    • wkerridge says:

It all depends on what type of league you are in, what categories you dominate/give up and what categories swing either way from week to week. If I had made that trade in my league with the situation I was in (trying to dominate the guard categories, ast, stl, FT% while punting on blocks) I would be absolutely ecstatic.

You have basically taken a hit in Rebounds for complete domination of the steal/assist categories and an increase in FG%. I think it is an excellent stand alone trade, but to get the full perspective we need your roster and league type.

I would pick up Mike Miller immediately, his numbers since Al Jefferson went out have been solid, highlighted by an 21-8-6 game last night while shooting 81% from the field.

      • csvernon says:

My team (after this trade goes through) will look like this:

PG: Chris Paul, Ramon Sessions, Delonte West
SG: Kobe Bryant, Josh Howard, Eric Gordon
SF: Carmelo Anthony, Luol Deng, Marvin Williams
        PF: David West, Lamar Odom
C: Rasheed Wallace, Lamarcus Aldridge, Boris Diaw

Bear in mind this is a 10-team h2h league. Obviously, some of those guys can play at multiple positions as well. I’m still okay in rebounding (‘Melo, Williams, West, Odom, Aldridge) but I was really looking to beef up my PG slot, and this should do the trick. Also, I’ll have one free bench spot to pick someone off of waivers (though sadly, Mike Miller was picked up last night after his excellent game). The wire still has Oden, Chandler, Anthony Parker, Raja Bell, Yi, Nocioni and Matt Bonner available…which of those should I grab?

  6. jimbo says:

I just offered John Salmons and Jamal Crawford for David Lee. Was this a good call?

The way i see it, salmons number’s are going to be nothing like they were in Sacramento and Jamal has been inconsistent through the year at the warriors. D Lee should put up mostly the same numbers even with wilcox, and may even benefit from wilcox jumping in at centre every now and again.

also there are some decent free agents and my team is strong enough to carry an injury for the playoffs.

    thoughts?

    • tupark82 says:

u’r exactly right. salmon’s numbers are gonna be wack as a 6th man, and crawford’s been inconsistent. It’s a lowball offer. I always thought you shouldn’t offer trades you wouldn’t accept yourself if it was offered to you. Who in their right mind would want to do a trade like that?

      • mbuser says:

to be honest that’s the first i’m hearing that one. i thought you establish what you’d accept and then offer a bit less. as in, give them a chance to counter

        • tupark82 says:

a bit less is reasonable, but if the offer itself seems like a joke, most people will be too irritated to even counter. It’s gotta be somewhat legit. I’m all about fair play!

    • wkerridge says:

yea no chance in hell the owner of Lee is going to accept that, but the other thing about Crawford is that Don Nelson said he is going to start randomly sitting his SG in order to give the younger players more time. Guess who is getting the bench first…yup…its Jamal Crawford.

  7. tupark82 says:

Matt, there’s a couple of guys on my team I’m wondering about. First one is, do you think Larry Hughes really will get the starting job at the 2 as most thought he would? I know he sat out for a while but he’s been rather wack since joining the knicks, and I’m pretty amazed that he has been this bad in the most free style offense of this generation. Also, has there been any kind of update about how serious Thornton’s injury may be? I dropped Speights to pick him up because someone dropped him in my league. Also, I have Kobe. Trade him now for the stretch run??

    • mbuser says:

hughes: it’s the consensus expectation that, at least to this point, i’ve agreed with. it certainly won’t happen before he gets his game back on track, though

thornton: he’s day to day, it’s not considered serious

kobe: i think it’s something to consider. you can probably get just about any player in the league in return, so i’d say it’s at least worth shopping him

      • tupark82 says:

thanks matt. i’ll consider trading kobe, although i’m a little scared after what happened a couple of weeks ago. I traded CP and Speights for Amare and Rashard Lewis hoping for Amare to get traded, but instead the coach got fired and the situation seemed better. Less than one week later, the news broke out about Amare seemingly out of nowhere and I was left with a CP for Rashard Lewis trade…

  8. joey_nails says:

    Hey Matt,

I’m part of a 6 team X 20 player league which has 11 cats – orebs, turns, and freethrows made.
I’m currently 3rd after a serious run, but am decimated by injuries…the playoffs are looming and we have guys like mike conley, ronnie brewer, raja bell, fransico garcia, antonio mcdyess, chalmers…all on the waiver wire

    here’s my squad:
    Pg: joe johnson, j, kidd
    sg: salmons, kevin martin
    g: sessions
    sf: lebron, marvin williams
    pf: rasheed wallace, spencer hawes
    f: gasol
    C: troy murphy, brook lopez
util:deron williams, brad miller, rudy gay
bench: manu ginobili, chris kaman, biedrens, jason terry, and kevin garnett

now my question is that im concerned with salmons, brad miller, they’re roles are significantly reduced…should i drop them and pick up some of the players off of waivers?

    thanks in advance

    • mbuser says:

i dont think miller’s role will be greatly reduced – he’ll be starting in short order. i can’t say the same for salmons

in general, my advice is to head over to basketball monster, plug in your league settings, and use the team analysis tool. it will show you your strengths and weaknesses and also give you a better look at which of those FAs makes the most sense. not that you have a lot of expendable players…
      http://basketballmonster.com/default.aspx

  9. cjohnson16 says:

Just pulled off an immaculate trade last week….right before they both got hurt I swapped Granger Garnett and Kevin Martin for D. Wade, Rashard Lew, and B. Lopez. KG’s age and the Celts record was a red flag from jump, and with Granger being hurt most of the year you had to know they were going to be very cautious.

I agree, you have to stay away from the teams with vets that either sit near the top or bottom of the standings – they’re either getting their legs ready for the playoffs, or their sea legs to go fishing come April.

  10. PistonsIn2010 says:

I’ve got granger on my team

I’ve gotten bad offers like louis williams and chris duhon.

Anyone get any good deals for granger lately, anyone I should be targeting, or should I just keep him and ride out the season with my fingers crossed?

    • mbuser says:

in simple terms, you should target anyone that will help your team and isn’t too far down the rankings in per-game impact. if all you can get is garbage, then you wait

    • Ashley says:

      Yeah those are pretty bad.

I had Granger.. Traded him for Mike Miller and Shane Battier. It may look kinda bad, but I just wanted to get a couple quality guys in return.

Miller is averaging 1.3 3ptm, 15.5 pts, 8 reb, 6.3 ast, 0.8 stl in the 4 games that I’ve had him.

And Battier is averaging 2.3 3ptm, 8.7 pts, 3 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk since I’ve had him.

So I’m actually content with the trade, because I’m trying to hang onto 2nd place and who knows if Granger will even come back and how much he’ll play if he does come back.

Maybe you should target guys like them

      • wkerridge says:

Granger for 2 waiver wire guys is a bit of a stretch in my view, I would have tried to get more for him, but if he ends up not coming back then its better to have something over nothing. I would look for a guy like rudy gay or bradon roy that have similar stats as Granger but are ranked lower.

        • Ashley says:

I had been shopping Granger for weeks because of his knee issues.. I offered him for Rashard Lewis, rejected. Granger, Rudy Gay, and Andre Miller for CP3, rejected. Same 3 for Wade, rejected.

Then Granger tore a tendon in his foot.. He has emerged as an elite NBA player and is on a pathetic Pacers team.. I would be really surprised if he came back and played. So I wanted to get whatever I could get.

Battier is underrated and Mike Miller has improved lately as you can see by the average numbers he’s put up for me.

Battier and Miller combined have gotten me 3.6 3ptm, 24 ppg, 17 rpg, 9 apg, 2 stl, and 1.5 blk since I got them for Granger.

I’ll take it, better than having an injured player producing nothing for me while I try to hang onto 2nd place.

  11. mbuser says:

the poll is going about how i figured. actually i should have left caron involved, because granger looks no less likely at this point

  12. leadvox says:

Here’s a weird one for you… If ‘Sheeds T2′s are being rescinded, will they also rescind his ejection? OK he was physically ejected because of the T’s but will they wipe the EJCT stat wise given the bogus T2′s?

  13. UCDUBSFAN says:

hey Buse, great column again. I have a little issue coming up and I wanted to run it by you. I am proposing a trade for Melo or D.Rose for Josh Smith straight up(two separate trade proposals). I am pretty covered in the categories that I am losing in terms of steals, reb, and blocks with smith but I want the points in return. Do you think this is a good move?
Also i had a question on Pierce, i know about the finger dislocation but do you think it will mean less playing time. He is one of my goto guys and I am pretty close in one of my leagues and want to know if I should wait and see on a start for him. I know he said he’ll play through it but I am wondering how much of an effect that the finger will have on his play, especially shooting.

    • mbuser says:

yeah melo for smith makes plenty of sense if that’s what you are aiming to improve

his FG% might dip but i don’t see it meaning ‘less playing time’ overall

  14. agtheog7 says:

HEY WAZZUP FELLAS. HEY BUSER, I GOT KOBE ON MY TEAM AND FEEL THE LAKERS WILL REST HIM AT SOME POINT AT THE END OF THE SEASON. IM IN PLAYOFF CONTENTION AND FEEL MY TEAM CAN CHALLENGE FOR THE SHIP. OBVIOUSLY KOBE SITTING WILL LOWER MY CHANCES. SO I PROPOSED TO 1 GUY KOBE AND SHAQ AND I WOULD GET YAO AND DERON WILLIAMS. TO ANOTHER GUY, I HAVE PROPOSED KOBE AND RECENTLY ACQUIRED MARQUIS DANIELS FOR DAVID LEE AND JEFF GREEN. I’M NEED BIG MAN STATS LIKE REB. AND BLK. I CAN AFFORD TO GIVE UP SCORING CATS LIKE FG AND PTS. WUT IS YOUR ASSESSMENT OF THESE OFFERS? MY LEAGUES DEADLINE TO TRADE IS MARCH 5TH, NEXT THURSDAY…

    • JHammon says:

agtheog, I’d rescind that offer for Lee and Green. I think you’re giving too much there. You can really get a homerun for Kobe and need to make sure you get a marquis player back. If you want big man stats there are a number of underrated guys you can target without losing #24. I’d see if Luis Scola or Marc Gasol is available. I’d also send a lowball offer (Marquis Daniels?) to whoever has Andris Biedrins, as he’s been injured but is now on his way back. If you’re intent on trading Kobe, I’d target a package deal with a good shooting guard to take Kobe’s place and a solid center or PF to join the team. The Kobe and Shaq for Yao and D-will offer is okay, but you’re spinning your wheels in your quest for big man stats when you lose Shaq, and really Kobe should be enough almost to pull those two by himself. What’s the rest of your roster look like?

      • csvernon says:

I’m also looking at Kobe trades, and I’m trying to gain some rebounding. I offered Kobe and Deng for Dwight Howard and Brook Lopez, and the counter came Kobe, Odom and David West for Howard and Lopez. Obviously that’s nutso, so I countered Kobe, Odom and Deng for Howard, Lopez and Gordon. I don’t think he’s going to go for it, and I already feel like Kobe is being devalued in this trade direction. Why am I having trouble moving Kobe? I can’t believe how hard it is to get value for the guy.

Kobe and Daniels for Lee and Jeff Green? Hell, I can’t even seem to get people to take offers similar to that in my league! I still think you’re underselling Kobe, though.

        • JHammon says:

I think people tend to overvalue young exciting players with athleticism and undervalue guy’s who we already know and understand. You might have more luck going after someone like Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett in a deal. (Not straight up, obviously.) They are similar to Kobe in that they’re a little “boring” because we know what they are. Of course I find nothing boring about Timmy’s 21ppg and 12.6ppg over the last month, but that’s just me.

I think Dwight Howard is probably the most overrated player in fantasy basketball outside of keeper leagues. I wouldn’t target him in a trade unless I knew for a fact the owner had some sort of problem with him and was selling.

    • mbuser says:

yep. don’t trade kobe for less than a top-tier talent coming back, regardless of what stats you are aiming for

      • agtheog7 says:

ALRITE FELLAS, MY ROSTER CONSISTS OF PG TONY PARKER, PG,SG CONLEY, PG,SG NATE ROBINSON, SG,SF VINCE CARTER, PF,C BROOK LOPEZ, PF KENYON MARTIN, SF,PF RUDY GAY, SG,SF M. DANIELS, SG KOBE AND C SHAQ.

THE TRADE OF ME GIVING UP KOBE AND SHAQ FOR D-WILL AND YAO WAS ACCEPTED AND IS PENDING APPROVAL. THE REASON I OFFERED THIS TRADE WAS BECAUSE I REALLY FEEL KOBE AND SHAQ WILL LET ME DOWN IN THE FANTASY PLAYOFFS BY EITHER SITTING A FEW GAMES OR NOT BEING FOCAL POINTS OF THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFENSES. I JUST SAW SHAQ’S LINE RIGHT NOW AND KNOW IT’S PROVING ME WRONG BUT I’M THINKING IN PLAYOFF MODE ALREADY. THE JAZZ AND ROCKETS ARE FIGHTING FOR GOOD PLAYOFF POSITION AND THE LAKERS ARE CRUISING. FROM A PURE NUMBERS STANDPOINT I KNOW I’M GIVING UP MORE AS WE SPEAK, BUT I FEEL I WILL BENEFIT IN THE FANTASY PLAYOFFS WHEN IT REALLY COUNTS. I’M IN 3RD PLACE IN A 16 TEAM LEAGUE BY THE WAY… THX FOR THE INSIGHT JHAMMON. WHAT DO U THINK ABOUT MY TRADE BUSER???

  15. movealong says:

Looks like the rockets are going well without Tmac. Anyways, looks like Yao’s pretty consistent these past few days doing almost everything. Here’s comes another dilemma and I hope that Matt could help. I’m now number 2 in my roto league and the guy at the number 1 spot is really trying to bug me. He’s offered Hinrich, Dalembert and Turkoglu for my Yao. Should I go ahead with it? Here’s my current lineup:

    Cp3,Andre Miller,Westbrook,A.Brooks,Anthony Parker,J.Posey,R.Lewis,Garcia,Barnes,Perkins,Mike Miller,Yao,Kaman.

Thanks in advance to anyone who could help.

  16. ronnie harmon says:

been thinking about shopping Kobe as well for the late season run….what about straight up for durant ,honestly i doubt his owner would go for it, I don’t think i’m asking too much though. Also considering packaging him with josh smith. For instance KOBE/SMITH for Durant/N.Robinson?? thanks for your opinions

    • mbuser says:

i don’t mind either one of those deals

      • ronnie harmon says:

what trade do you think i have a better chance at getting durant’s owner to go for?? Kobe for durant or kobe/j.smith for durant/robinson ? I’m getting close to pulling the trigger

        • mbuser says:

not sure. they are both reasonable offers. offer whichever one you’d prefer first

          • csvernon says:

Better hold off on those offers until you find out how badly Durant was hurt tonight!

            • ronnie harmon says:

man….i hadn’t seen any news at all until i saw your reply, thanks for the head’s up!!! offer was on the table and i cancelled it before i even looked at any injury details. I was feeling good about that trade, i think it would have improved my team. for some reason i am bent on trading Kobe, I agree that Kobe is going to ease up a bit before the start of NBA playoffs. I have until the 5th to pull some-thing off, and I’m not dealing with the 2nd or 3rd place teams either (I’m in first, put still vulnerable)

  17. UCDUBSFAN says:

Hey everyone, had question is there a spot on the site where we can get feedback for probable starters? I am going back and forth between Tayshuan Prince and Josh Smith for tonight. I know smith is back but unsure of how he will play with the persoanl leave abscence and Prince has been up and down. I could also move Thaddeus young from starter to bench but the sixers are playing the knicks So i think Ima roll with that.Any suggestions?

    • JHammon says:

There’s just no way to tell you without knowing if you’re in a H2H or a roto league, and more importantly, what stats you’re needing. My advice would be to check out what stats you’re fighting for, and go with the player who averages higher in those categories. Good luck.

hey everyone, i have boris diaw on my team and as the situation is leading to charlote getting knocked off the playoff race in probably a very short time, do u think i should keep him on the team? i can easily get a deal for diaw and get bargniani.

    your opinion?

Hey all, I just traded Caron Butler and got Andre Igoudala from a guy who is down toward the bottom of my league (I am second in a ten team league). Given that Butler is known to miss games near the end of the season and the Wizards are an awful team with no hope of making the playoffs, was this a good trade? I feel like I did the right thing shopping him and got a statistically comparable player who is guaranteed to be playing heavy minutes down the stretch since the Sixers are fighting for the playoffs.
