PICKUPS/PLUG-INS
• Spencer Hawes, Francisco Garcia – the Kings dealt away both Hawes and Garcia’s main competition for playing time to the Bulls, freeing up the two to join the starting lineup. Both players deserve universal ownership, even as the Kings have little hope in the standings (2-15 over the past 17). In 14 games as a starting center this season, Hawes has averaged 11.9 points on 50 percent shooting, 0.6 threes, 7.6 boards, 2.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.8 blocks. In 29 career starts at small forward, Garcia has averaged 13.1 points, 1.2 threes, 5 boards, 2.5 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1 block.
• Mike Conley – healthy skepticism regarding Conley is understood and encouraged, but we’re getting to a point where nobody can ignore what he’s been able to accomplish under Lionel Hollins. Conley has now scored in double figures in 11 straight games, averaging 14.6 points, 1.2 threes, 5.1 boards, 6.5 assists, and 1.3 steals over that span.
• Delonte West – West is expected to be back in the lineup for the Cavs on Sunday, so those of you who have been waiting to make a move on him have a very small window. West’s efficient line before his injury (12.3 points on 47 percent shooting, 1.8 threes, 3.1 boards, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.1 turnovers, and 83 percent from the line) has his current per-game rank at 38. The Cavs are also one of four teams that are tied for the most games remaining on the schedule (28).
• Aaron Brooks – as anticipated, Brooks’ first game as the new starting point guard for the Rockets (Friday) was a success. In 34 minutes, he totaled 19 points, three treys, six boards, eight assists, and two steals. Fantasy owners shouldn’t be expecting a shooting percentage much higher than 40 percent, but the counting stats will be plentiful and the Rockets are one of two teams to play four games in each of the next four weeks. Kyle Lowry will play, but don’t overestimate his impact on Brooks’ minutes.
• Antonio McDyess – The 34-year-old vet was performing so well that the Pistons had no choice but to return him to the starting lineup. He’s averaged 10.4 points on 55 percent shooting and 11.5 boards in 33 minutes over the past ten games, and has totaled 37 points, 27 boards, four blocks, and 78 minutes in two games since returning to the starting five. Detroit is also one of four teams that are tied for the most games remaining on the schedule (28).
• Ryan Gomes – Gomes has been a sneaky-good fantasy contributor for the past few seasons, he’s added a three-point shot to his arsenal this season, and his production has been spiking of late. Over the past 12 games, he’s averaged 16.1 points, 1.8 threes, 4.7 boards, and 1.3 steals, while making 24 of 28 free throws (86 percent). The loss of Al Jefferson means that Gomes will have even more opportunities – he has scored 46 points over the past two games and made 10 field goals in a game for the first time this season on Friday.
• Matt Barnes – If Friday was any indication, then Barnes is going to be active and productive in the wake of Amar’e Stoudemire’s injury. He filled the statsheet in 30 minutes of a 140-118 blowout of the Thunder: 14 points, 2 threes, 6 boards, 9 assists, and 4 steals. Given his versatility and the team’s return to its up-tempo roots, Barnes has very solid upside.
• Marquis Daniels – Daniels is once again being featured prominently by the Pacers, now that he’s getting healthy and both Mike Dunleavy and Danny Granger are not active. He’s been in the starting lineup for the past two games (including today), during which he’s totaled 40 points, three treys, seven boards, three steals, and two blocks.
• Andray Blatche – Blatche is back after missing nine games to a knee injury. He’s come off the bench initially, but it’s only a matter of time before he’s back as a starter. In 11 starts from January 7-26, he averaged 12.1 points on 51 percent shooting, 5.9 boards, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.4 blocks.
• Jarrett Jack – the fact that Mike Dunleavy is likely done for the season means that Jack should see very steady minutes. He’s averaged 31 to this point, and while his resulting line hasn’t been huge (11.2 points, 0.9 threes, 3.3 boards, 3.8 assists, and 1 steal), those numbers play in just about any format.
• Flip Murray – Murray has a very consistent role for the Hawks as scoring punch off the bench and he’s been a consistent performer – he’s scored at least 12 points in 16 of his past 21 games, averaging 14.6 points on 50 percent shooting, 1.2 threes, 2.7 boards, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 steals during that time.
• Roger Mason – Mason’s role will expand at least over the next few weeks while Manu Ginobili is sidelined by injury. He’s been up and down in February, but things have evened out to reasonable production for those of you in need of scoring and a few guard stats – in eight games, he’s averaged 15 points, 2.5 threes, 3.5 boards, and 2.6 assists in 34 minutes per game. One other data point of note: the Spurs are tied with four other teams for the most games remaining on the season (28).
• Nenad Krstic – Krstic has replaced Nick Collison as the Thunder’s starting center, a move that will stick if he can remain at least somewhat productive. His first two starts were a mixed bag – 16/6 in 29 minutes on Friday followed by two points and four fouls in 13 minutes on Saturday – but he’s going to have a bit of a leash as the team is more concerned with its long-term prospects than the immediate future.
• Chris Wilcox – as an athletic big, Wilcox is the type of player that you would think could carve out a role in the D’Antoni system. He’s put up 14/8 any time he’s been given 30 minutes, but that’s the rub – there are only so many minutes to go around. It makes sense for deep leaguers to make a speculative add, but those of you in standard leagues should be aware that Wilcox has never been more than a three-cat contributor (FG%, PTS, REB).
• Brandon Bass – Bass has emerged as a roto “glue guy”, putting together very solid incremental contributions. Over the past 22 games, he’s averaged 10.2 points on 52 percent shooting, 5 boards, 0.5 steals, and 1 block, while making 87 percent of 79 free throws. What his role lacks in volume it makes up for in consistency, as he hasn’t seen less than 16 minutes in a game since January 4.
• Joel Przybilla – the Vanilla Gorilla has started the past two games for the Blazers, totaling 12 points, 25 boards, four steals, and three blocks in 52 minutes. His longer-term prospects as a roster add hinge on what happens when team doctors take another look at Greg Oden’s knee on Monday.
INJURY UPDATES
• Andris Biedrins – Biedrins is still unsure when he’ll be able to return from his ankle injury, but he appears to be getting closer. “We don’t have a time frame now. We’ll see how it feels before the Clippers game on Monday,” he said.
• Carlos Boozer – Boozer practiced on Friday and will return to the lineup on Monday if all things go well during a second practice on Sunday.
• Marcus Camby – Camby is out again Sunday, the fourth straight game he’s missed because of an inner ear infection. We’re already past the point where he was “expected” to be back, so you can only assume that it won’t be much longer…
• Mike Dunleavy – Dunleavy has been declared out indefinitely due to ongoing issues with his right knee, and it’s hard to come up with a reason for fantasy owners to wait this situation out.
• Kevin Garnett – Garnett will miss the next two to three weeks because with a muscle strain in his right knee. The injury is not considered serious, but the team wants to take no chances and is focused on a completely healthy KG the playoffs. Brian Scalabrine started on Sunday in Garnett’s place, and Leon Powe and Glen Davis will also see extra minutes in the interim.
• Manu Ginobili – Manu will need at least two weeks off to deal with the stress reaction in his right leg.
• Drew Gooden – there aren’t many substantive updates available regarding Gooden, but the Sacramento Bee appears to think that he could “possibly” practice with the team on Sunday.
• Danny Granger – Granger is out for anywhere between 10 days and three weeks because of a partial tendon tear in the sole of his right foot.
• Chris Kaman – although I was unsuccessful in locating the source material, Kaman’s current Yahoo! player note says the following: Feb 19 C Chris Kaman (plantar fasciitis left foot) has stepped up his court activity and is on the verge of being cleared for full-contact practice. It should be no more than a week-and-a-half before Kaman is cleared.
• Kenyon Martin – K-Mart left Friday’s game and wasn’t in the lineup on Sunday because of back spasms. Consider him day-to-day at this point.
• Greg Oden – Oden will miss his third game on Sunday because of the bone chip in his left knee, and his status beyond that will be determined when he’s re-examined by team doctors on Monday.
• Jason Terry – Terry is looking at a return in late March after undergoing surgery to repair the broken bone in his left hand last week.

not looking good for monta ellis
http://48minutes.net/2009/02/22/monta-ellis-sidelined-1-2-weeks-by-stiff-ankle/
I have Ellis, would you keep him or drop him…..was thinking about picking up Conley
i would absolutely drop him for conley
Done, Thanks! Next question, what do you think of the latest news on Gilbert Arenas and how he has been “all out practicing since the Wizards got back together following the All-Star break” He says hes feeling like the old Arenas…feeling good, no pain, no swelling, balance back, speed back – is it time to add him if he’s available in your league or still too big of a risk?? Thnx again!
Here’s the deal, I need to make some changes on my team if I want to do anything in the playoffs. Here’s who I have now:
Andre Miller Joe Johnson
Allen Iverson Andre Iguodala
Mike Bibby Stephen Jackson
Peja Stojakovic Gerald Wallace
Shawn Marion Rudy Gay
Emeka Okafor Mehmet Okur
Marcus Camby
I have a pretty solid team, but I was wanting to pick up someone hot from the FA list and drop Peja without losing a whole lot of 3′s and increase my rebounds.
Major FA’s include: Horford, Ty Chandler, Hawes, Diaw, D. West, Bargnani**, and Nate Robinson.
Who should I drop him for, or should I just forget about making a move
Also, I was considering shopping Camby and Jackson but I don’t know what caliber players to shoot for in a trade between the two, I wouldn’t mind having Pau Gasol or someone of that high value.
Any help would be great. Thanks!
what place are you in? is there a certain category that you are close to winning at a lot but need a little edge? i wouldnt imagine you are too strong in rebounds.
I’m in 4th after this week. I’ve flopped my FG% and TOs, and I dominate in steals, blocks, 3pt made, and somewhat in assists. I need some help with points and mostly rebounds pretty bad. Was bargnani’s line from today a fluke or would he be a great pickup to replace peja. I don’t really want him on my team anymore….it seems like he’s just really inconsistent..and all i really use him for is 3′s so if i can get some rebounds and 3′s to replace peja along with a decent FT%, i would be all for it
yea bargnani’s line tonight was a bit extreme. he will get you decent points, 7-9 rebounds, and will attempt a few threes. might be a good look for you.
if diaw, bargnani and robinson are fa’s in your league…you need a new leauge
Dump Peja for Delonte, Bargnani or Nate immediately.
You mentioned poor FG and interest in Rebs. Try Bargnani
with all those solid FAs, i’d be sending out 2-for-1′s to just about every other manager to try to upgrade and free up a roster spot. ignore percentages and just concentrate on the counting stats
although i love west, i think hawes and/or diaw make more sense for your team. west’s efficiency would be completely lost on your squad, while the particulars of diaw’s line fit right in
Who should I try and get rid of?
Camby, Iverson, Jackson, Johnson…those are a few I was considering trading off. I picked up bargnani for peja a couple of days ago.
What do you think?
Stephen Jackson might be worth holding onto, surprisingly. He’s this year’s Baron Davis, benefiting from GS’s system and now Monta Ellis is possibly out for the year.
But Camby, AI, Joe Johnson…. That sucks, good luck getting decent value for them. Camby is an obvious candidate to shut it down, so try to get someone like Brook Lopez, David Lee, or Troy Murphy if you can.
Johnson will finish the season, but he’s in the midst of his late-season fade. Package him and AI and try to get Rashard Lewis or Jason Richardson.
Then use your extra spot to add any of the guys you listed above not named Tyson Chandler.
to be honest, i’d be shopping marion and okur, since a lot of their value is in %s and low TO. try something like marion and andre miller for chris paul, with the intention of then adding diaw or nate robinson
Should I drop Mike Miller for West?
I did that about a week ago. I’m happy about it so far!
I just did…
the only thing I pondered was Mem has 4 games to Cle 3 this week, but watching Miller is scary! Your like please don’t suck tonight, please judt don’t… There’s a little more peace with West for me.
I just picked him up after I saw the line that he’s having tonight. Hopefully he’ll be good the rest of the way.
I desperately need help in 3’s, pts, reb but cannot really trade for top players like Murphy, Okur, and Kevin Martin. Who are some lower level players that I can pick-up/trade for that can fill at least two of those categories? I can think of some obvious ones, but their values are going so high, I’m not sure I can trade for them. (like Barbosa) Are there any players I should really target? THANKS!!!
Nate Robinson, Al Harrington, Ben Gordon, Mike Miller, & Kevin Love are a few I can think of. Those players could help you, but dont know if their values are to much for you.
Look at the PICKUPS/PLUG-INS Buser posted above. You could use almost every played listed if you need 3s, Points, Rebounds.
I’m just not sure who to pick up. I just got a lot of help with Delonte West off of FA (why he lasted until now, I have no idea- I didn’t even know he was still there). This is my current team:
PG: Calderon, Harris, Miller, Conley(new), Blake(new)
SG: West(new), Foye, Brewer
SF: Marion(new), Thaddeus
PF/C: Lopez, Love, Turiaf
I just dropped Chris Anderson(needed blocks) and picked up Conley after trading Josh Smith and Al Horford for Marion
I also got a steal(at least now I did) after I traded Stoudemire, Dunleavy, and Westbrook for Harris and Lopez.
And does anybody think Brewer and Thaddeus will improve the rest of the way?
given that you were able to pick up both conley and delonte that recently, there are probably better options than blake and brewer on waivers in your league(?)
hmm brooks or delonte west…
if efficiency will help you (good %s, low TO), west is a no-brainer. if you are more concerned with volume of counting stats, then it’s a bit closer
Matt… Any updates/details on the Nene knee injury?
30 mins/game for Chris Anderson would be great. I assume Nene will atleast miss tomorrow night’s game.
nothing yet. but it certainly does appear that he’ll take at least a bit of time off

Hey Buser I wanted to know if ur going to make a list of players who are likely to shutdown near the end of the season as this is about the hottest topic right now in trades with the fantasy deadline approaching.
thanks!
This is great question as I’ve been trying to shop Baron Davis like I’m Isla Fischer (Cohen). I am practically giving him away but folks in my league seem cognizant of his Copperfieldian ability to disappear for days at a time.
Folks who seem likely to trade in uni’s for well-tailored 3-piece suits include -
B. Davis
Camby?
Manu?
Ellis?
Granger?
And of course, anyone on one of my fantasy teams whom I have relied an depended upon.
Players that are on teams that are not going to make it the play-offs are especially tricky, because they have an upside of accumulating significant counting stats playing in games that don’t matter (which trend more towards score-fests than arduous defensive battles).
Anyone who is hearing more on potential early shut-downs, please share!
Gracias!
Definitely add Caron to that list.
One interesting thing about this year though is the element of ticket sales. A lot of teams are really hurting for money and are probably less likely to shut down their star player if that player is the only reason tickets get sold. That means Granger might be back sooner than everyone thinks, and Caron/Jamison might not shut down unless Arenas comes back and plays major minutes.
However, for that same reason, I don’t think Manu will rush back, and regardless of the economy it looks like they’ve given up in Clipperland.
What do people think of my theory? Is it unrealistic?
hey. glad to hear my point is causing quite a discussion around here. still waiting to hear buser’s view about this and maybe he’ll do a piece on this issue as it is of highly importance right now.
guys on the bubble on this issue on my squad are:
Granger
Kaman
Gerald Wallace
Diaw
Rasheed
any expert opinion on those?
yeah my short-term agenda includes: discussion of shutdown candidates, updated rest-of-season ranks, and a baseball draft prep post
Trying to decide whether to start Conley with 3 games or A Brooks with 4 this week. Every cat is close, except blocks, which I’ll win, and points, which i’ll lose.
Suggestions?
i may give the edge to conley, by virtue of having both IND and OKC on tap
Do you have to search up each team’s schedule to determine like that opponents.
Or is there a weekly ease ranking schedule
=)
nvm I found it
In light of the shut down rumors being thrown around with Caron Butler, Washington’s poor fantasy playoff schedule, and Philly’s awesome fantasy playoff schedule, would anyone here trade him straight up for Andre Miller?
I would def. if I was already short on PG’s
I’ve been considering dropping Rodney Stuckey after being unsuccessful in my attempts to trade him. And now news of Yi returning to the starting lineup has come out. My team is guard heavy with Kobe, Sessions, Calderon, Chalmers and Delonte. Do you think dropping Stuckey for Yi is a good move? Thanks in advance
I dunno about Yi, but I’d drop stuckey if there’s an option out there. Either wait to see what Yi does with minutes or go for someone else. I dropped Stuckey for Aaron Brooks in my 10 team league and he’s now cleared waivers and is still available.
i don’t see yi as having a ton of upside this season, and he’ll also shoot about 40 percent regardless of all other factors
I’m definitely awaiting buser’s take on players who might shut it down soon. I’ve got Jamison, and have been shopping him because of that fear, but I don’t want to short-sell him by too much. I was offered Deron Williams for Jamison and Shawn Marion, which seems like a bad deal to me, but I’d like to hear other opinions. If I countered for Williams and Iguodala for that same package, am I still on the short end of it?
better hope you are very secure in rebounding if you make that trade. you are losing a lot of boards but gaining a lot of assists.
Yeah, I know. Personally, I don’t think D. Williams is any better than Jamison, but I’m just concerned Jamison won’t play as hard late in the year, or will come down with a “mystery injury.” I’m still okay in boards if I do this (Odom, David West, Aldridge), but I certainly wouldn’t be assured of winning boards anymore in h2h.
Oops, I posted the other time as a generic comment rather than as a reply.
Deron is on fire
His stats are climbing towards the end of this season and the jazz need him to continue playing well for a playoff seed.
IMO hes the only PG on CP3′s level (in reality).
to be honest, i’m FAR less concerned with jamison shutting it down than i am butler
Thanks, buser and everyone else. I won’t trade Jamison for peanuts based on your advice.
Long question for board members. Actually it’s more analysis really and Matt I’d sure like your advice. I’m feeling geared up for some playoff wins and I’m looking at a first round bye. In H2H 9 category are there weaknesses that need to be addressed with this team. I’ve been lucky with injuries (just knocked a hole in my desk) for the most part, and hopefully wise in recent moves in regards to trades and injuries.
PS I’m shopping Oden hard.
12 Team, H2H, 9 category
West, Rondo, Brooks, Harris, Ginobili
LBJ, Iguoadala, M.Daniels, Hamilton, Fernandez
Duncan, Camby, Okur, M.Gasol, Oden
Thanks for feedback from anyone.
You might as well drop oden.. I don’t know what value you expect to get from him, especially in a non-keeper league. It’s not like he was consistently putting up good numbers when he healthy, so I doubt anyone wants him now that he’s missing games with a chipped bone in his knee.
have you been losing any cats consistently? my guess is FT% and TO, but otherwise you seem pretty strong. you appear to be all over good FAs in your league, but what are the best options currently?
Hey Matt and Ashley thanks for the reply. I always appreciate the insight I get from this forum.
Ashley I’m sure you’re on top of Oden’s news since your post. I say hang on to him. My FA Pool is very sparse and some of the lines Oden posts are worth the risk and current lack of productivity. I would say the same of Speights and DeAndre Jordan given the right night, but at least he has as starting gig if he plays.
Buse, most of this team has made it through thick and thin. Only recent additions are Brooks and Camby. I recently waived Pietrus for Brooks, and traded Rose for Camby. I own pts assist and steals and usually take reb, but hopefully Camby shores up that and blocks (knock). Rose won’t be missed with the addition of Brooks and return of West, and really I’m just looking to the last three weeks of the regular season, I’m looking great for a bye in the first round this year.
Best FA’s are Antoine Wright, Courtney Lee (intriguing for Fernandez maybe) CJ Watson and Wafer for smalls.
And Bigs Ryan Anderson, Speights, D. Jordan (always watching with Camby) Darko, Javale McGee, Carl Landry, and Joel Anthony.
Buse I really do appreciate any time you take to look at these, and if you would, please let me know if you see something I don’t in the FA pool.
P.S. Dead on with the turnovers. FT% depends on Lebron, Iggy and Duncan. They usually gel in 2′s in that department either way.
I’m just not a fan of Oden, fantasy-wise. I traded away my 1st round (6th rd overall) pick last year, so I wasn’t expecting to get Oden. But he fell to me and I drafted him with the 7th pick in the 7th round and I was so excited to have both Bynum (keeper) and Oden. I drafted Troy Murphy in the 9th round and Brook Lopez in the 14th round so I thought I was set at the center position.
Before the season started I rejected an offer of Granger and Rose for Bynum, Oden, and Conley.
And I remember opening night… Lakers vs Blazers… Oden vs Bynum… I was excited to see what the top 2 young big men in the NBA would do. And of course Oden goes down after 12 mins with 0 pts and Bynum looked awful with 8 pts, 3 reb. I wasted my top pick on him.
I held onto Oden for a few games but got impatient and dropped him, then they announce that he’d be back in a couple days and someone claimed him off waivers. Oden had an 11 pt, 11 reb, 4 blk game.. 13 pt, 8 reb, 3 blk game.. 22 pt, 10 reb, 2 blk game.. And I was so mad at myself. But since then he’s only had one 20+ pt game and 14 games of 5 pts or less, so I don’t feel bad about dropping him anymore.
I like Oden, he has a great personality.. But it appears he’s going to be a bust. He’s a rookie and has already had knee injuries to both knees. I just don’t see him having much of a career. Oden is only 21 but he moves like Mutombo.
But if the guys you listed are the top big men available, I guess you might as well hang onto Oden and see how he does whenever he returns. I’m assuming someone has already grabbed Przybilla.
Troy Murphy is the Cliff Lee of basketball. Unfortunately I traded both of them, thinking I was “selling high”, but they never faded like I had expected.
My only centers now are Brook Lopez, Chris Anderson, and Turiaf.. But they get the job done, and I somehow have the 3rd most rebounds in my league. I guess because all my guards give a solid contribution.
Well you might be concerned about the return of Boozer and the impact on Okur. I have Okur in one of my leagues and I’m wondering if I should pick up Miller who’s available on the wire (probably not for long though).
Does anyone think that would be a good idea (Drop Okur for Miller, the trade deadline has already passed)?
I am more worried about AK47.
I would assume Okur would still start at C with boozer at PF.
But milsap coming off the bench alongside AK47 makes it difficult for
him to get more playing time.
(Milsap can put a body on opposing players on defense, something AK47 struggles with i beleive)
I agree, Millsap will take a hit, AK will go back to the banch, which actually isn’t bad looking at his first of the year numbers as 6th man, but I think Okur is safe. I would keep him rolling.
I wouldn’t do that with Okur. I think he is the least affected by the times share of Milsap, AK, and Booz. I bet he is still a double double average with occasional def stats, 3′s and high %’s. No way Miller gets more valuable.
Yeah I came to my senses after that post (in my own defense Okur did score 6 points with 8 boards the night that Boozer returned – about half of what he normally does).
Just an afterthought: Ronnie Brewer has been clutch lately (hopefully the improved free throw and fg percentages can continue).
I recently picked up Larry Hughes. He has had two low output games, probably due to rust. I am concerned that Hughes will get enough minutes with Nate Robinson on a tear. I have the option to pick up Matt Barnes. Would this be a good idea?
Yes, Hughes is fantasy basketball kryptonite. :+) Leave a roster spot open if you have to but get him off your team. Get Gilbert Arenas and sit him till the last game of the FBL playoffs. His production sitting on your bench is better than Kripto-Hughes. :+)
go get matt barnes.
Thanks. Done. Thats what I thought. Hughes FG% is very low, as well
Arenas news:
Mon, Feb 23 Arenas (knee) took part in non-contract drills during Monday’s practice, the Associated Press reports.
Recommendation: “Both Brendan [Haywood] and Gilbert did some shooting and some running up and down the floor, so it was great to see those guys out there,” interim coach Ed Tapscott said. The Wizards don’t have a timetable for Arenas’ return to full-contract drills, but Arenas hopes to be back in uniform before the end of the season.
arenas playing this season makes even less sense than monta pushing his ankle to the limits. jamison said it best:
“My main thing is getting the guys healthy for next year,” team co-captain Antawn Jamison said. “This year is what it is. It would be an added bonus if Gilbert or Brendan can come back this year just to get a few games under their belts, but it’s about the future of the organization.”
Rest of the way: Delonte or Daniels?
in roto, west is a no-brainer. its a bit closer in h2h, depending on what you are concentrating on, but points and boards are the only cats where daniels figures to be better (not enough volume in blocks to matter)
Buser,
Love the site, visit it daily, crap, hourly lol.
You ever think of putting a “Home” button on your site, I always click “more” to read the whole article and comments but then find myself having to click back until I get to the home page or retyping busersports.com into the url. Probably trivial, but thought I’d throw it out there.
If you click on the Basketball of the Busersports logo at the very top it does what I think you want.
bingo. anywhere on the logo
Money … Thanks
In desperate need of some help.
H2H 14-team league, 11 cats (TO and Free throws made are the extra two)
My squad:
Mo Williams
Mike Conley
T.J. Ford
Rodney Stuckey
Ray Allen
Kevin Marin
Mike Miller
Larry Hughes
John Slamons
Luis Scola
Chris Bosh
Andray Blatche
Looks rough but its 14-teams and I am completely punting on TO’s, blocks, even rebounds to some extent. I am currently a lock for the #2 or #3 seed in the playoffs and I am looking to improve my chances at winning the title.
I was offered this trade:
Manu Ginobli
Jeff Green
Rasual Butler
for
Chris Bosh
T.J. Ford
Is the prospect of getting Ginolbi to come back healthy worth the risk of losing Bosh? I could really care less about T.J. Ford and Rasual Butler, if I decided to accept I might counter-offer with no Rasual Butler in the trade. Jeff Green has had better averages than Bosh in the past month or so and he hits 3′s at a clip of 1.3/game. Is Manu expected to come back at full form? I know he has a stress fracture that they caught early…What should I do?!?!?
if you are punting those cats i’d keep bosh and try to make a minor deal involving blatche. he’s not doing much for you at all. be careful with hughes, as in count on his being a big drag on FG%
yea i figured I would pick up Hughes just to see if he benefits from the NY offense. I am ready to drop him or Stuckey at anytime, but there is literally nothing on the waiver wire. Do you know anything about Manu, like when he is supposed to come back and if I will be able to count on him to produce? Good point about Blatche, he is pretty much on my team so I dont have a blank PF,C spot every night.
Thanks for all the help, one last question…
I rejected the offer so the guy proposed another trade:
Jason Kidd
Manu Ginobli
Jeff Green
for
Chris Bosh
Mike Conley
I feel like Jason Kidd will be a complete drain on my FG% but this way I could dump Hughes or Stuckey and feel pretty good about it.
id say pull that trigger and hope you can survive FG % at least this way you increase more of the stats that you are looking to dominate in. conley has been playing awesome lately but ya never know when manu will go off again.
Definitely accept. Kidd is shooting 50% over the last month, Conley is shooting 42% on the season and over the last month. Since you’re a lock for the playoffs, Ginobili will be a great boost in a couple weeks.
Accept the offer and drop Stuckey.
do it. kidd doesn’t have a large impact on FG% of FT% one way or the other because of low-volume attempts
Thanks guys, you are all awesome I hope the trade works out.
Do you accept donations to your site Buser?
Man, Kidd going into the deal in place of Ras Butler? And the only other difference is you switch in Conley for Ford? That’s a big win. I wish the counters I got were that good!
yea the kid I am trading with is in a desperate battle for the final playoff spot, I told him Ginolbli would have to come at a discount, I didn’t think that discount would be the #9 player in yahoo average!
Should I be concerned that West is out for today’s game (although I’ve read that it is just “a little sore” and he’ll be back for the next game) and that the injury could linger for the rest of the season?
Also, Hawes or Garcia in a vacuum?
he’s getting ready for a five day four game road trip. I wouldn’t worry so much. After a night like he had, I can see why they would want to rest him for the road, specially against Memphis. I predict he lights it up starting Thursday. I hope so anyways, I dropped Mike Miller to pick him up and watched Miller almost triple double as West sat on the bench… Doh!
I did exactly the same thing, leadvox…and I really could have used Miller’s numbers in my matchup!
Prove me right, Delonte.
yeah they are just being careful with west

in a vacuum, i’d give the edge to garcia, but it’s not major
just stumbled upon this, although i’m not sure how true the speculation acutally is:
“Though the emphasis is on developing the younger players, Nocioni already is forcing Kenny Natt to tweak the plan. The Kings’ coach already is considering starting Nocioni at small forward and returning Francisco García to his sixth-man role.”

Just saw a note on Yahoo about Josh Smith possibly being out tomorrow due to suspension (1 game for his flagrant 2 on Monday)…any word on whether he’ll miss additional time, and further, what is with this guy this year? Is he still slowed by his early season ankle injury?
I am thinking of shopping him but am not sure what he’s “worth” anymore…
He’s not playing like last year fo sho, but he contributes a little of everything right? I mean Blocks and steals and rebs and a little assists with over 10pts a game. If you can trade hime for a 2-3 cat stud then it might be worth it if you can take the hit in the other cats. I don’t think he was worth his average draft spot, but he’s still a good FBL player. Wish I had him.
Yes, most of his numbers are decent.. But he was a 2nd/3rd rd pick and is currently ranked 106 based on season average. He’s averaging 2 less points per game, and 1 less blk/reb/ast a game this year compared to last year.
And don’t forget about his wonderful FT shooting that continues to get worse and worse (along with the rest of his stats)… 56% on the season, 37% over the last month, and 0-6 in his last game.
Josh Smith has a horrible basketball IQ and plays with no motivation. He and Mike Woodson don’t get along. Mike Woodson is one of the 5 worst coaches in the NBA, but because the Hawks overachieved last year (37-45…) he got a lot of the credit for getting them into the playoffs, even though it was all Bibby.
Woodson doesn’t know how to run and offense, doesn’t know how to coach, and doesn’t know how to get his players to play to their full potential. Just look at every Hawk on the roster over the last 3 years. No progression what-so-ever.
If the Hawks continue to play mediocre basketball down the stretch and somehow manage to fall out of the playoffs, Woodson will hopefully be fired.
As for Josh Smith, if you don’t mind conceding FTs, hang onto him because he contributes in most categories. But if he’s killing your FT% every week, ship him out.
Battier > Josh Smith
run an offense*
the only way to find out what he’s worth is to shop him. he’s still a guy with a lot of name value, so you may end up with an offer you like – don’t trade him just to trade him, though
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the replies and advice. I wasn’t aware of Woodson’s rapport (or lack thereof) with his players but it does make sense when you consider Joe Johnson. Johnson was a top-20 fantasy player last year during the second half, but has been looking pretty bombed out and fatigued in recent weeks. His min./game average is disconcerting.
Also, is Woodson (part of?) what prompted Josh Childress to seek playing time overseas? Just curious if a coaching change would bring Childress back into the mix in Atlanta, as I believe they still have rights to him…
nah childress got a massive raise to go overseas, basically a deal too good to pass up
I’ve got to start thinking out keepers for my 8 cat roto league next year, while keeping an eye out on occasional plug-ins this year, too. Who do you like more, Yi, Speights or Thompson?
How many keepers are you allowed to keep? Are those guys really in the running? Seems like you’ve got have some better options.
Of those three, Thompson looks like he’s most ready to contribute right now, with Speights just behind. Yi is too big an injury risk.
Thanks. We get to keep 4, but I’ve already circled Foye $3, Westbrook $2 and Butler $6 for next year. A player’s price goes up a $1 a year, so there is disincentive to keep expensive, high dollar players. After our 4 keepers, we have an auction for 4 more non-rookie players, then we draft 4 from among the non-keeper, non-auction and rookie players, each for $1. We start with $40. I’m leaning to Thompson, too, as he is more likely to get the PT and is a better rebounder than Speights. I did notice that the 76ers tried to trade Sammy D, though.
As for your question, ‘Sheed’s had a rough patch lately, but Oden may be too much injury risk to pick up over your other listed players.
The only thing with with Thompson is that he will have to battle Nocioni, Hawes and Gooden(unless they are going to move him) for playing time. Yi doesn’t really have any competition for his spot and being such a high draft pick you know the Bucks are going to work on their investment. I would still take Thompson out of the 3 though.
sorry im an idiot, Yi plays for New Jersey
New question: Delonte West or Greg Oden? Oden just cleared waivers, and if I’m going to grab him I need to act fast before the rest of my league notices. I don’t really have anyone else to drop; my “next-worst” players after West are Deng, Sessions, Gordon, Westbrook and Rasheed.
I don’t think anyone would drop any of those players for Oden.
Buser, what’s your take on Singleton in Dallas? If he can stick in the rotation, he looks great. In the six games he’s played 20+ minutes, he’s averaging 11.1 pts on 52% shooting and 9.8 boards, plus 1 blk, .7 steals and he’s got three 3pm in his last two. Why isn’t he getting tick?!
his numbers the past two games came in a blowout win and a blowout loss. he’s shown some things but there’s just not a lot of room for him in the dallas rotation, as many of his skills are redundant with bass
I’m having a hard time deciding on who to drop. I had Udonis and Beasley on my 12 team H2H. I also have Wade and now Jermaine O’neal on the Heat. I was hoping Beasley would get the starting job but seems otherwise.
I dropped Haslem to pick up Hawes but I’m now thinking I should have dropped Beasley. Is he worth waiting for? Haslem seems pretty consistent but I’m hoping Beasley will just find himself and get the starting position after some bright spots earlier this season. Any advice appreciated.
I would try to reel Haslem back in, if at all possible. His consitency in fg%/pts./brds looks nice over the course of a week. I also like Beasley’s potential for a big game, but his defense is allegedly what keeps him off the floor. The impact is direct as a portion of that playing time is absorbed by Haslem.
Any chance you could package O’Neal and Beasley in a trade in your league?
Hey Buser I have a really hard question to ask. It concerns the overall performance of my team. I lost Bynum, A.Stoudemire, J.Nelson, and A.Bogut for the season. This is how my team looks now.
PG: M. Williams, B.Davis
SG: J.Howard, N.Robinson
SF: L.Deng, R.Jefferson
PF: S.Marion, A.Blatche
C: B.Lopez, C.Anderson
Util: M.Conley, S.Telfair, R.Mason, R.Bulter
Bench: M.Speights, M.Ginobili, J. Posey, J.J. Barea
The league is 10 teams deep and literally no “good” free agents to look at. I won last week pretty strongly but wanted to know who I should ship off in trades, and also what I can still improve upon.
wow 18 team roster? I can see why there are no free agents left. How many categories are in your league? What are your weaknesses? You might be able to ship off Mason right now considering Ginolbli is slated to come back soon, other than that it looks to me like you have a really solid team.
Its a 9 category league and I usually win FG%, 3pts, TO’s, blocks, and steals. I’m on and off when it comes to points and assist depending on how M. Williams and B.Davis decide to play. I mostly need some rebounding and some points.
I feel your pain with Bynum, his injury almost killed my team, and it happened a few weeks after I had traded for him.
Like Buser says in his general strategy, in H2H all you need is to win 5 categories, if you are close in points and assists then those are the categories you should try to improve on while punting on rebounding. I would see if Luke Ridnour is available in your waiver wire, when he gets his starting role back he would provide a nice assist boost. Toronto has a pretty anemic playoff schedule, maybe you could move Marion while he is hot for another PG that will boost your assists. Maybe Rondo (although he has been on fire lately), Calderon (although his playoff schedule is the same obviously), Duhon or even Stephen Jackson.
I’m not the expert and I’m not saying those would be even trades so take what I say with a large grain of salt.
Hi Buser, I was looking at players like Paul Pierce and LaMarcus Aldridge and noticed a big discrepancy in their rankings for the season between their total and average. For example, Pierce was ranked 23 total for the season while he was 51 based on average for the season on Yahoo. Aldridge was 37 and 63, respectively. Why such a difference and what does it mean when evaluating players?
If their total is significantly higher than their average it usually just means they haven’t missed many games.
It’s like how Kaman is like 26th in per-game average but he’s barely played. Whereas if you’re like Aldridge, you put up pretty good numbers (meaning your per-game average is decent, but not great), but because you’ve been healthy the whole season your totals are very good.
Hey guys,
I’m in a 14 team, 15 player/team H2H league and the cats are:
Pts, 3s, OReb, DReb, Ast, Stl, Blk, Ft, fg%, ft%, 3%, a/to
I’ve pretty much punted OReb, DReb and Blk, fg% since amare and bynum went down :’( I’m also lagging in 3%
But anyways,
I have
DJ Augustin
Mario Chalmers
Danilo Gallinari
Danny Granger
Yi Jianlian
Joe Johnson
David Lee
Corey Maggette
Dominic McGuire
Andre Miller
Jamario Moon
Ronald Murray
Marreese Speights
Sebastian Telfair
Jason Thompson
I’m looking at some players and I’m wondering if I should drop anyone for keyon dooling, or trying to trade for gomes for chalmers.
The league is pretty deep so dooling, c.j. watson, eddie house, cj miles, maurice evans, and courtney lee, graham, batum, antoine wright. are pretty much the best options on waivers
I just don’t feel confident in my team and was wondering if anyone could think of any good deals I could get for any of my players. Or if I should drop anyone for any of the players listed above.
Any advice/suggestions would help
Thanks in advance
Hey guys, I’ve been following these threads for a while now and I decided I want to join!
Firstly I wanted to thank Buser for the amazing site I love it.
I’m part of a 6 team X 20 player league which has 11 cats – orebs, turns, and freethrows made.
I’m currently 3rd after a serious run, but am decimated by injuries…the playoffs are looming and we have guys like mike conley, ronnie brewer, raja bell, fransico garcia, antonio mcdyess, chalmers…
here’s my squad:
Pg: joe johnson, j, kidd
sg: salmons, kevin martin
g: sessions
sf: lebron, marvin williams
pf: rasheed wallace, spencer hawes
f: gasol
C: troy murphy, brook lopez
util:deron williams, brad miller, rudy gay
bench: manu ginobili, chris kaman, biedrens, jason terry, and kevin garnett
now my question is that im concerned with salmons, brad miller, they’re roles are significantly reduced…
keeping the last fews schedule in mind any suggestions??
thanks in advance
