Stern expects Jordan approval next week (AP)

FILE - In this Jan. 9, 2010, file photo, Charlotte Bobcats managing partner Michael Jordan, left, talks with player Stephen Jackson during the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Memphis Grizzlies in Charlotte, N.C. Jordan struck a deal late Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, to buy a controlling interest in the Bobcats, making the NBA's greatest player the owner of the money-losing team in his home state.

The NBA has signed off on Michael Jordan's bid to buy the Charlotte Bobcats, and commissioner David Stern expects the league's board of governors to approve the purchase by the end of next week. In an interview with The Associated Press on Friday, Stern said he expects the vote to pass "very easily." Jordan will become the first ex-player to own an NBA team and the second black...

The Charlotte Bobcats are back home Friday and looking for their fifth-straight win as the Los Angeles Clippers come to town.

The Bobcats (32-31) are coming off a convincing 102-87 win at Philadelphia on Wednesday behind Gerald Wallace’s 28 points. Stephen Jackson chipped in 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Bobcats continue to climb up the Eastern Conference standings.

Entering Friday’s matchup with the Clippers (25-40), the Bobcats are in seventh place in the East and just two games behind fifth place Milwaukee (34-29).

Friday will be the second and final game of the season between the Bobcats and Clippers. The two teams played February 22 in Los Angeles, with the Clippers defeating the Bobcats, 98-94.

Charlotte held a lead until late in the fourth quarter when the Clippers’ Rasual Butler hit a game tying three-pointer with 2:41 left. The teams battled back and forth in the closing minutes, but Los Angeles went 9-of-12 from the free throw line to seal the win.

The Bobcats are 4-7 against the Clippers all-time, but have won four of the last five matchups.

Larry Brown tells Sixers not to fire Jordan just yet

Eddie JordanIt seems pretty clear that the Philadelphia 76ers are going to fire head coach Eddie Jordan at some point in the near future, whether it is now or at season's end. The rumor floating today is that Charlotte Bobcats head coach Larry Brown (who once coached the Sixers) told team owner Comcast-Spectacor chief Ed Snider not to can Brown till the season was over, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Brown supposedly advised Snider to hang onto Brown till season's end and get his younger players such as Jodie Meeks(notes), Jason Smith(notes), Jrue Holiday(notes), and Thaddeus Young(notes) as much playing time as possible now to help them next year.

The thought on keeping Jordan from some in the Sixers camp is that it will likely lead to a few more losses and possibly a higher seed in the draft lottery.

Nets Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

While the present remains a nightmare of indescribable proportions, the Nets' future is undeniably bright. And a huge part of that future finally starts coming to fruition Thursday with ground-breaking ceremonies on the Barclays Center, the Nets' planned home in Brooklyn.

The expected dignitaries scheduled to attend included New York Governor David Patterson (who'll welcome the break from the enormous scrutiny of administration scandals and staff resignations), New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, current Nets owner Bruce Ratner, Barclays President Robert E. Diamond, Nets CEO Brett Yormark and Nets investor Shawn (Jay-Z) Carter, who counts one LeBron James among his friends.

Celtics Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Celtics finish up a brief two-game homestand against Indiana Friday, and they'll be trying again to shake a bad habit that's grown this season.

Although filled with veterans, the Celtics tend to act like an inexperienced team when their shots aren't going in. Like youngsters who base their image on offense, they go away from the meat and potatoes of their game.

"People talk a lot about this team versus the team that won it, and there is one difference we've found," said coach Doc Rivers. "There's one thing we're doing now that we didn't do in the past.

"Before, we never got down when our offense was down, and now we do. We hang our heads when we're not making shots, and it leads to bad defense. (Boston Celtics)

Hawks Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The next time Josh Smith takes the floor at Philips Arena, it will be a sad homecoming after a three-game road trip.

Before the Hawks take on the Pistons on Saturday night, Smith will greet the family of Rashaan Bennett, a celebrated high school running back from the same high school Smith attended in suburban Atlanta. Bennett was killed recently.

Smith befriended Bennett over the summer while they were both working out at McEachern High in Powder Springs. Bennett had signed scholarship papers to attend Vanderbilt in the fall but didn't make it to his high school graduation, the victim of a senseless murder.

Smith will cover the living expenses for Bennett's family for the next six months, a selfless gesture for a family he knows will never fully recover from the... (Atlanta Hawks)

Pierce and Allen just trying to do their share

It’s a classic Catch-22. On the one hand, Celtics coach Doc Rivers feels he has to reestablish Paul Pierce as the go-to guy as his team builds toward the playoffs. On the other, in order to get Ray Allen going — and for the offense to run smoothly as a whole — the ball has to move.
